News in 2023: £2 bus fares until end of 2024 and a new Okehampton Parkway station announced The image here is of a booklet "Bus Away - Walk-a-day" produced by the Dartmoor national park back in the 1970s - it would be a short booklet based on the services today! However, we attempt to detail those services below. It remains to be seen whether this service will continue in 2024 or whether we will again return to the days with no bus service to central Dartmoor. For a time that was a daily service, one bus a day, but the daily service was abandoned in 2023 and replaced with a 6-week service at peak season in July and August. The other very welcome development in May 2021 was the start of the Dartmoor Explorer Bus Service. The service is regular and reliable and allows easy access to and from Okehampton and from there down the west side of Dartmoor using the 118 bus. For the first time in fifty years the daily service resumed on 20th November 2021. Public transport on Dartmoor improved dramatically with the resumption of the daily train service between Okehampton and Exeter. This was back when the Transmoor Bus made the central moor accessible for those without cars in the summer months until it stopped in 2016. The premise of this website originally was to give a guide to visiting interesting prehistoric sites using public transport. The Okehampton Train and the Dartmoor Explorer Bus
